The “file” works were inspired by the form of the gas grill burner grates that “frame” each of the constructions. The grates have “tabs” that reminded me of file folder tabs. I consider each an isolated study or “file” of a form of water. Round File refers to the shape of the iron drain in the piece as well as to the euphemism for a garbage can—tossing something in the “circular file’—as a reference to wasting water.
